ROBERT L. "BOBBY" FINNEY, 60, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Tuesday evening, December 29, 2009 at William Newton Hospital.

Born October 25, 1949 in Winfield, he was the son of Robert Lee and Ruby Edith (Widener) Finney. His father worked in the oil fields and his family lived in several places, but Robert spent the majority of his childhood in the Winfield area. He received his associates degree from Cowley County Community College.

Robert worked in the oil fields for several years. He then worked at Gott Manufacturing for four years before starting his career at the Department of Corrections in Winfield in 1987. He was a sergeant at the time of his death.

He was united in marriage to Nancy Holt on October 24, 1972 at the First United Methodist Church in Winfield. Robert enjoyed reading books, he loved to shoot and trade guns, hunting and fishing. He especially loved his grandchildren and spending time with them.

His son: Brett Finney and wife, Misty of Winfield, Kansas;
His daughter: Amanda Finney of Beaufort, South Carolina;
His brother: Lonnie Finney, Sr. and wife, Ginney of Winfield, Kansas;
His grandchildren: Kayleigh, Erica and Cole Finney;
His niece and nephew: Jennifer Callison and husband, Lee of Winfield; and Lonnie Finney, Jr. and wife, Tessa of Surprise, Arizona; and
A host of friends.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Danny.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 4, 2010 at 3:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 1 to 3 P.M.

A memorial has been established in Mr. Finney's name for the American Heart Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
