Obituary

Robert D. "Bob" Kadau, 92, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Friday, August 27, 2021, at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita.

Bob was born June 8, 1929, on a farm near Bolivar, Missouri. He was the youngest child of Bert and Dolly (Scott) Kadau, with brothers, Donald and Herbert, and sister Dorothy.

Bob attended early grade school in Missouri, but later graduated from Tisdale Rural Grade School in 1943 after the family moved from Missouri to a farm in the Tisdale community, close to where other family members resided. He graduated from Winfield High School in 1947. He served as student body president and was designated as one of five honor graduates for that year. Bob was also the recipient of the American Legion's Good Citizenship Award. He attended Southwestern College and the University of Wichita before joining the United States Air Force in 1950 during the height of the Korean War. After honorable discharge from the service, he returned to Southwestern and graduated with the Class of 1955.

On September 4, 1954, he and Patty J. Kiser were married in Boulder, Colorado. To this marriage, two daughters were born, Anita in 1960, and Tammy in 1964. The family has always lived in Winfield. Following graduation from college, Bob went to work for the Boeing Company in Wichita, where he held various positions with technical and administrative responsibilities throughout the production and later, modification of Boeing's B52 Aircraft. Rather than transfer to Seattle with two young daughters, he left Boeing in 1970 and went to work for Gordon-Piatt at Strother Field, where he again held various positions with technical marketing and administrative responsibilities. While at Gordon-Piatt, he was one of the company's representatives to both the Winfield and Ark City Chamber of Commerce. After retirement in 1988, Bob worked part-time for Webster Engineering for four years.

He was an avid wood worker and liked remodeling houses as well as home improvement projects. In 1988, he built a cabin on property he and Pat had acquired on Timber Creek, where family and friends spent many hours of happiness. He also like growing roses, collecting coins, and owning unique autos. He learned at an early age, how to hunt, fish, and trap, as this was important to food and small sources of income during the 1930s Great Depression. Accordingly, he was a long-time member of the NRA and KSRA and also a lifetime member of the American Legion.

Bob is survived by his wife Pat of Winfield; daughters, Anita D. Jones and husband, James; Tammy A. Snyder and husband, Clint; his grandchildren, Kelli D. Grant and husband, Rob; Amy E. Rhodes and husband, Adam; Heidi A. Snyder and fiancé, Nick; Kyle R. Snyder and fiancé, Ruby; his great grandchildren, Marquis, Marlon, Ava, and Abigail; and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his siblings.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 2, 2021, at 10:00 A.M. at Highland Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled at Miles Funeral Service on Wednesday from 5 to 8 P.M. The family will greet friends from 5 to 6:30 that evening. The family asks all attendees to wear masks.
