Robert L. "Bob" Chrismer, 80, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Tuesday morning, February 7, 2023, at his home.
Born January 26, 1943, in Mexico, Missouri, he was the son of Roy Cameron and Irma Darline (Slavens) Chrismer. He was raised and received his education in Laddonia, Missouri, graduating from Community R-6 High School in 1961. He then joined the United States Navy, where he proudly served his country, receiving the Good Conduct Medal. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Laddonia, Missouri, where one week later, he met the love of his life, Vera Burkhead.
He was united in marriage to Vera Burkhead on March 26, 1966, at First Baptist Church in Mexico, Missouri. The couple made their first home in Rush Hill, Missouri, where Bob worked for Missouri Pacific Railroad as a track rider. He then began his career with Morton Buildings, a position that would take the family from Mexico to Winfield, then to Wyne, Arkansas, and back to Winfield. After leaving Morton, he worked for a short time for B&S Well Service, before beginning his career at Schwans. Bob and Vera moved to Orangeburg, South Carolina when Bob was promoted to Sales Manager with Schwans. He was then transferred to Sedalia, Missouri, where he remained until retiring in 2004. Bob and Vera returned to Winfield in 2015 to be near family.
He was a member of New Hope Fellowship Church and the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, boating, trains, birdwatching, and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
His family includes his wife Vera of Winfield; his children, Robyn Bailey and husband, Thane of Winfield; Denise Mayes of Sedalia, MO; his brother William "Bill" Dean Chrismer; his grandchildren, Lexie Bailey, Darion (Steven) Archambeault, Dawson Mayes, Delaney Mayes; his great grandchildren, Cali Rose Bailey and Isla Phifer Archambeault; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a son Robert Wayne Chrismer, and a sister Mary Ann Schwartze.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, February 10, 2023, at Miles Funeral Service. Burial will be held in Missouri at a later date. A visitation is scheduled at the funeral home on Thursday from 5 to 7 P.M. The family will greet visitors during this time.
Memorials have been established in Bob's name for New Hope Fellowship Church and for St. Jude Children's Hospital. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
