ROBERT D. ABPLANALP, 86, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Saturday morning, April 5, 2014 at the South Central Medical Center in Arkansas City.
Born on October 22, 1927, in Leon, Kansas, he was the son of Frank and Eunice (David) Abplanalp. He was raised and received his education in Winfield. Robert also received a welding certificate from Cowley County Community College.
He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from November of 1945 until October of 1947.
Robert was united in marriage to Nola Wolfe on August 29, 1952 in Clayton, New Mexico. He was employed in the oil fields and later worked as a truck driver for Total Petroleum and Skyline. He retired in 1991.
Robert was a member of the Harvest Fellowship Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars #3544 and the Freedom Riders. He had been an airplane pilot from a young age and enjoyed motorcycles and skydiving.
His family includes:
His wife: Nola of the home;
His son: Dallas Abplanalp and wife Rita of Ponca City, OK;
His daughters: Roxann Anderson and husband Floyd, and Tammy Harrison and husband Richard all of Arkansas City, KS; and Jin Young Abplanalp of Ponca City, OK;
His sisters: Freda Collins and husband Darrell of Arkansas City, KS; Doris Mauldin of Wichita, KS; and Ruby Moore and husband Perry of Aurora, CO;
His grandchildren: Janie & Zack Stoy, Amber & Rusty Moore, Adam Leach, and Roseanne & Mike Kayhill all of Arkansas City, KS; Mandy and Casey Tebow of Ponca City, OK;
His great-grandchildren: Jonas, Becca, Mason, Cash, Holton, Khloe, Mallory, Davyn, Madison, Emily and Katelyn; and
Numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Rebecca; and his sister, Wilma Williams.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, April 10, 2014 at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, April 9, 2014. The family will greet friends during that time.
A memorial has been established in Robert's name for Harvest Fellowship Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
