Rita Sue Davis, 87 of Wichita, Kansas, passed away Sunday afternoon, February 21, 2021 at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.
Born February 22, 1933 in Dexter, Kansas, she was the daughter of Fay Felix and Sarah Opal (Yeager) Cochran. She was raised and received her education in Dexter, graduating from Dexter High School in 1951.
She was united in marriage to Merle Albert Glass on December 22, 1952 in Winfield. The couple made their home in Wichita, where Rita worked at Boeing. To this union 4 children were born. The couple later divorced. Rita later worked several different jobs in the Wichita area while she was attending Wichita State University. In 1983 she graduated from WSU with a degree in Social Work and began working at the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center. She later worked for the Red Cross, and the State of Kansas. Rita retired from the State of Kansas in 1998. She later returned to work for the Kansas Children's Service League. Rita worked as a Substitute Teacher for Wichita Public Schools, where she remained until she was 82 years old.
Rita enjoyed traveling, especially going on cruises. She went on cruises all over the world, including, Alaska, Panama Canal, Nova Scotia, and Jamaica. She also enjoyed sewing, swimming, reading, quilting, watching KU and WSU basketball, and making memory books for her grandkids.
Her family includes her children, Jeremy Glass and wife, Peggy of Wichita; Jill Beard of Wichita; her companion of 32 years Armando Chacon of Wichita; her sister Karen Hanks of Cedar Creek, TX; her grandchildren, Branden, Sarah, McKensy, Travis, Tony, Tyler, and Trenton, all of Wichita.
In addition to her parents, Rita was preceded in death by two sons, Jonathan Glass and Jordan Glass, and a sister Donna Boyles.
Graveside funeral services will be held Thursday, February 25, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. at Dexter Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled at Miles Funeral Service on Thursday morning from 10 A.M. to 12 P.M. The family will greet visitors during this time.
Memorials have been established in Rita's name for the Special Olympics team Wichita Independence and for Emporia State Softball. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
