Richard Leland Tredway, 79, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Sunday morning, August 12, 2018 at Reeds Cove in Wichita, Kansas after a short battle with cancer.
Born June 22, 1939 in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of Ernest and Ida (Logsdon) Tredway. He attended Willow Branch Country School until it closed in 1953, then attended Burden Public School, where he graduated in 1958. Richard was united in marriage to Gale Duncan on March 14, 1959 at the First Methodist Church in Winfield. The couple made their home in Burden for a few years before he was drafted into the Army in January 1962 and served until being honorably discharged in January 1964. After completing his active service he returned to his previous job at Brad's Magneto and the family moved to Winfield. In April 1976 he was self employed as a Mobil Oil and Fuel Distributor in the Cowley County area, retiring in December 1997. Following retirement from the fuel business, he drove a school bus for USD 465 from 1998 through April 20, 2005.
Richard was a member in good standing of the Burden Lodge Ancient Free and Accepted Masons for 58 years. He was a lifetime member of the Red Valley Gun Club and loved hunting, target shooting, and especially caring for and training his numerous bird dogs.
His family includes his wife Gale of the home; his son Roger and wife, Cindy of Winfield; his grandson Anthony of Winfield; and his sister-in-law Dorothy Tredway of Laverne, OK.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his son Scott in 1989, his sister Laurette Bonesteel, and his brother D.E. "Bud" Tredway.
A memorial has been established in Richard's name for the Cowley County Humane Society. Contributions may be made through Miles Funeral Service.
No formal service is scheduled. Private inurnment at Highland Cemetery will be held.
