RICHARD STATON, 65, of Tucson, Arizona, was called away by The Lord from his home, Wednesday afternoon, October 24, 2012, for a new construction project.
Born on October 26, 1946, he was the son of Richard Albert and Norma Geraldine (Lundy) Staton. As a young man, he resided in Cambridge, Kansas and graduated from Eastern Cowley County High School (now Central High School), Burden, Kansas in 1964 and later took college courses for his construction license. Richard served in the Reserves from 1964 until 1966 and the United States Navy until 1969.
Richard was in the construction business throughout his life for the companies of Brown & Root, Mountain States, Kasper Hall, Bateman, Kveraner-Aker, Aker-Solutions, Aker Industrial Construction and Jacobs. He had lived and worked in Kansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Texas and Arizona and also worked in Canada and Mexico. He held construction licenses in Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and Nevada.
Richard moved to Arizona in 1984 and on December 23, 1994 was united in marriage to Sandra Braden in Tucson, Arizona.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church and the American Legion.
Richard owned race horses for several years that ran at Turf Paradise in Phoenix, Rillito Park Horse Racktrack in Tucson and also Colorado. He was a passionate participant of basketball, football, baseball, bull-riding, softball, fantasy football, and March Madness.

His daughters: Tracy Gillespie of Udall, KS: Charlie and Lonnie Lemmon of Fort Smith, AR; and Georgana and David Lawson of Burden, KS;
His mother: Norma Staton of Carrollton, TX;
His sisters: Rita Smith and husband Alan of Era, TX; and Lana Sheilds and husband Joe of The Colony, TX;
His sister-in-law; Anawade Bormaster of Fort Smith, AR;
His mother-in-law: Leatrice Carter of Spiro, OK;
His 14 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson;
His 4 nephews and their families;
His 2 nieces and their families;
His many uncles, cousins, and extended family;
His loyal and lasting friends of the construction business, from when he first began as an iron worker to becoming VP of Construction Operations;
His gardener and loyal friend, Jaime, who made his life so much easier; and
The family herd of registered angus cattle and the bull, Bullcephus.
He was preceded in death by his father, all his grandparents, several uncles, two aunts, and his dear Uncle Barney Lundy of Cambridge, Kansas.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, November 3, 2012 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at the Cambridge Cemetery in Cambridge, Kansas.
We will all love and miss Richard, until we meet again.
A memorial has been established in Richard's name for the Central Raiders men's and women's basketball teams. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
