Richard Delore Potter, 90, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2016 in Winfield.

Born March 26, 1926 in Anthony, Kansas, he was the son of Elmer Elliott and Fannie Ella (Collins) Potter. The family moved to Winfield when Richard was nine months old. He attended grade schools in Winfield and graduated from Winfield High School in 1944.

Richard served in the United States Army Air Force for two years. He was honorably discharged in 1946. On June 8, 1947, Richard was united in marriage to Catherine Marie McFarland in Winfield, Kansas. The couple lived in Winfield for the remainder of his life. To this union, three children were born, Gail Louise, Karen Leigh and Kent Douglas.

He worked as a welder and was employed at Yount's Welding Shop, Gordon-Piatt, Boeing Aircraft and Fluid Kinetics, retiring in 1991. His greatest joy included his family, hunting and a great love for woodworking.

His daughter: Karen Taylor of Missouri;
His five grandchildren: Jennifer Harrison of Winfield; Jill Elkins of Winfield; Amber Fluis of Wichita; Jared Fluis of Overland Park; Samantha Potter of Wichita; and
Numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by a daughter, Gail Lowther-Morton in 2012, a son, Kent D. Potter in 2014 and a brother, Raymond Potter.

Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Burial will follow at Union Graham Cemetery.

Memorials have been established in Richard's name for the American Heart Association and for National Parkinson Foundation. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
