Obituary

Richard G. Peak, Sr., 81, of Udall, Kansas, passed away Sunday evening, August 26, 2018 at his home.

Born July 8, 1937 in Atchison, Kansas, he was the son of Asa Warden and Edna (Clark) Peak. He was raised and received his education in Atchison, graduating from Atchison High School in 1955. Following school, Richard was married for a short time. From this union, two sons, Dan and Doug, were born. The couple later divorced.

While working as an over the road truck driver, he stopped at Kings X Diner in Wichita where he met Pamela Olinger. Six weeks later, on August 23, 1968, the couple were married in Juarez, Mexico. They made their home in Udall and Richard began working for Cessna. He later began farming for Thompson Farms where he remained for over 40 years, retiring in January 2018. Mrs. Peak preceded him in death on April 14, 2010. Richard enjoyed restoring tractors, gunsmithing, tinkering around in his shop, playing with his dog, Sweetie, and spending time with his family.

His family includes his children, Shawn Johnson of Wichita; Shannon Botkin and husband, Shane of Udall; Shane Lichti and husband, Patrick of Hutchinson; Shandra Tharp and husband, Chad of Winfield; Richard Peak, Jr. and wife, Barbara of Udall; Dan Peak of Huron; Doug Peak of Huron; his brother Robert Peak of Atchison; his grandchildren, Christopher, Megan, Kriston, Cole, Nick, Aricka, Mackenzie, Zachary, Samantha, Kierston, Elizabeth, Sarah, Avery, Erick, Amanda, Cassie, Colton, and Travis; and his 11 ½ great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, Richard was preceded in death by four siblings, Rita, Gary, Mike, and Pat, and a granddaughter, Kelsey Cooley.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, August 31, 2018 at the Udall Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Thursday evening, August 30, 2018 from 4 to 8 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. The family will greet visitors during this time.

A memorial has been established in Richard's name for the March Of Dimes. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
