Obituary

Richard Leon Martin, 82, of Dexter, Kansas, passed away Thursday evening, June 20, 2024, at his home.

Born June 22, 1941, in Arkansas City, Kansas, he was the son of Alvin Leroy and Rose Lee (Sickler) Martin. He was raised and received his education in Arkansas City. When he was a young man Richard spent a short time working on a cattle ranch in Colorado.

He was united in marriage to Glenda (Johnson) Lowden on May 21, 1983 at Hackney Baptist Church. The couple made their home in Arkansas City, until moving to their farm near Dexter, Kansas in 2001. Richard spent over 28 years working at Gordon Piatt.

His family includes his wife Glenda Martin of Dexter; his sister Eloise Johnson and husband, Lee Wayne of Dexter; his stepchildren, Karen Mitchell and husband, Jack of Little Rock, AR; Gary Lowden and wife, Michelle of Hackney; his grandchildren, Julie Jarboe and husband, Travis; Josh Arentz; Christina Bordon and husband, Corey; Barbie Ann Miller and husband, Josh; Brandon Lowden and wife April; Kent Lowden and wife,  Suzanne;  Christopher Lowden and wife,  Susan; Jordan Lowden and wife Brandy; Russell Lowden and wife, Heather; Vincent Lowden and wife, Crystal; Karina Lowden;  and his 18 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents Richard was preceded in death by a daughter Janet Arentz, a sister Patricia Martin, and a stepson Kenneth Norman Lowden.

Graveside services will be held at Moore Prairie Cemetery in Elgin, Kansas under the direction of Miles Funeral Service in Winfield, Kansas. Pastor Norman Reeves will officiate.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Richard's name for Gentiva Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
