Obituary

Richard Henry Mackey, 85, passed away September 27, 2021, in Winfield.
He was born February 24, 1936, to Henry and Maxine (Shiflet) Mackey. He was raised in Burden, Kansas and graduated from Burden High School in 1954.
He was united in marriage to Wanda Bair November 25th, 1956. They were married just two months less than 65 years. The couple made their home south of Burden on the farm which was homesteaded by his great grandparents in 1883. He raised livestock and also sheared sheep for others in the area for many years. He was a lifelong member and long-term Deacon of Burden First Baptist Church. He served on several boards including the Burden School District, Cowley County Fair and Sheridan township. He enjoyed his grandchildren and he loved to tease them.
He was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
He is survived by his wife of the home, son Chris Mackey (Gaye) of Atlanta, daughter Nancy Ybarra (Tony) of Dallas, son Brent Mackey (Carol) of Winfield, and son Steve Mackey (Stephanie) of Burden, grandchildren Blake Mackey (Heidi) of Sidney, Nebraska, Emily Mackey of Wichita, Jennifer Ybarra of Dallas, Megan Ybarra Todd (Liam) of Nashville, Joe Mackey of Wichita, John Mackey of Denver, Brendan and Rachel Mackey of Burden, 2 great grandchildren, his sister Janine Robinson of Conroe, Texas, and sisters-in-law Sarah Bair, Vivian (Gerald) Shaver and Eleanor Bair.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2021, at 10:00 A.M. at the Burden First Baptist Church. Interment will follow at the Burden Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield on Friday, October 1, from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 that evening.
A memorial has been established in Richard's name for Burden First Baptist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
