Richard L. "Dick" Brummett, 97, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Sunday afternoon, January 21, 2018 at Winfield Rest Haven.
Born August 26, 1920 in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of Lloyd M. and Maude (Campbell) Brummett. He was raised and received his education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1938. He then attended Southwestern College where he graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Music in 1942.
Richard was united in marriage to Mary Williams on July 15, 1945 in Winfield, Kansas. The couple made their home in Winfield. In 1949, Dick began his career teaching music in Atlanta, Kansas. From 1952 to 1953, he taught in Harper before returning to Winfield, where he taught music for over 30 years, retiring in 1983.
In addition to being a member of First United Methodist Church, he was also a member of several musical organizations. He was the Supervisor of Midwestern Music and Art Camp at the University of Kansas from 1961 to 1974. He enjoyed judging music contests, serving as a judge in five states.

His grandchildren: Shannon Parker and husband, Craig of Colorado Springs, CO; Sarah Powers and husband, Joe of Colorado Springs, CO; Chris Brummett and wife, Jamie of Richmond, IN; Abby Snodgrass and husband, Nate of West Lafayette, IN; Dane Brummett and wife, Kristen of Munster, IN; and
His great grandchildren: Jack Parker, Grace Parker, Eli Brummett, Will Brummett, Eva Snodgrass, Alex Snodgrass, Lauren Snodgrass and Kate Snodgrass.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by an infant sister, Linda Kay Brummett, a son-in-law, Jim Hahn and an infant grandson, Christopher.
Memorial services will be held Friday, January 26, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Private family inurnment will be held at Highland Cemetery.
Memorials have been established in Mr. Brummett's name for First United Methodist Church Helping Hands Program and the Winfield Food Pantry. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
