Richard Allen Kearns, 82, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday morning, August 18, 2022, at the Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.
Born October 7, 1939, in Tisdale, Kansas, he was the son of Raymond and Osie (Brooks) Kearns. He was raised and received his education in Winfield. After school, Richard began his career working in the oil fields in southern Kansas and northern Oklahoma.
He married Ruth Ann Knuckey on August 15, 1964, at First Baptist Church in Winfield. To this union, two children, Allen and Kimberly, were born and the couple later divorced. He later married Leta Meadows. The couple made their home in Winfield and later divorced. Richard worked most of his life as a rig hand in the oil fields, retiring from Stelbar Oil Corporation on November 1, 2004.
Richard was a member of the First Nazarene Church of Winfield. He enjoyed fishing, coonhunting, bowling, and figure 8 cars. He also enjoyed watching Kansas City Chiefs football.
His family includes his son Allen Kearns and wife, Becky of Winfield; his daughter Kimberly Gray of Winfield; his nine grandchildren, Alex Garrout, Cody Kearns, Brady Gray, Garth Gray, Cheyanna Prichard, Ashley Marr, Trey Gray, Breanna Wogoman, and Cody Wogoman; and seven great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by three brothers, Harvey, Don, and Robert Kearns, and a grandson.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at 10:00 A.M. at the First Church of the Nazarene in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled at Miles Funeral Service on Tuesday from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 4 to 6 that evening.
A memorial has been established in Richard's name for the First Church of the Nazarene. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
