RICHARD 'DICK' HOPKINS SR., 91, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Tuesday morning, November 25, 2014 at Winfield Resthaven.
Born on November 19, 1923 in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of Herbert and Mildred (Hamlin) Hopkins. He was raised and received his education in Winfield and graduated from Winfield High School in 1941.
He was united in marriage to Erma Louise Reece in 1945 in Placer County, California.
A veteran of World War II, Mr. Hopkins proudly served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in New Guinea. Following his honorable discharge he returned to Winfield. He was employed at Winfield Lumber Yard and Consolidated Flour Mill. In 1950, Dick began employment at the Winfield Fire Department and retired in 1974. Following retirement he worked for Cowley County Bridge Department and later Winfield Iron and Metal. Mrs. Hopkins preceded him in death in 2012.
He was a member of the First Christian Church and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars #3544. He enjoyed collecting old pocket watches.

His daughters: Teri Koroma of Winfield, KS; and Pamela Wartick of Branson West, MO;
His sister: Marilyn Teachman of Winfield,KS;
His grandchildren: Brian, Brad, Craig, Jarritt and Te'Keisha; and
His 12 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, James Hopkins; his grandson, Kiyon Koroma; and his son-in-law, Keith Wartick.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, November 29, 2014 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Military committal honors will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M., Friday, November 28, 2014. The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M., that evening.
A memorial has been established in Dick's name for the First Christian Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
