Richard Dennis
Finley
June 22, 1951 – April 25, 2020
Richard Dennis Finley, 68, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Saturday morning, April 25, 2020 at his home.
Born June 22, 1951 in Winfield, he was the son of Jack O. and Ruth O. (Ireton) Finley. He was raised in the Akron community, attending Akron grade school and then Winfield High School, graduating in 1969. He then attended Cowley County Community College and graduated in 1971. As a young man, Rick worked summers on his aunt's farm in Braman, Oklahoma. He hauled hay with his brother Rex and did odd jobs for area farmers.
Rick was united in marriage to Sharon E. Lawrence on June 8, 1973 in Winfield. The couple made their home west of Winfield. He worked as an auto mechanic with his father at the Akron Garage until his dad retired in 1989. In 1974, Rick and Sharon began Custom Harvesting, first traveling from Oklahoma to North Dakota. The last 25 years, they've cut for local farmers. Rick enjoyed this very much.
Rick was a member of the Winfield Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. He was baptized in 1990 and served as an Elder in the Winfield congregation. He enjoyed talking to interested persons about God's Kingdom that Jesus taught us to pray for. Also dear to his heart was the hope of the resurrection. He loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, and walking in the pasture with his dog Grizz. He enjoyed water skiing since he was six years old.
His family includes his wife Sharon Finley of Winfield; his brother Rex O. Finley and wife, Nancy of Winfield; his sister Cathy L. Hamlin and husband, Steve of Winfield; two very special aunts, Dora Burris and Jenny Powell both of Winfield; his uncles, Jim Ireton of Colorado; Albert Finley of Oklahoma; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews; and many dear friends.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside memorial services will be held Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at 10:00 A.M. at Akron Cemetery. The graveside service will be available to be viewed live on the Miles Funeral Service Facebook page.
