Rhea Sloan, 78, of Dexter, Kansas, passed away Friday afternoon, June 14, 2019 at her home.
Born November 20, 1940 in Winfield, Kansas, she was the daughter of Gilbert and Pauline (Hoyt) Gordon. She was raised in Wilmot, and received her education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1958. She then attended Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma where she received a Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education.
Rhea was united in marriage to Ronald Sloan on August 27, 1961 at the First Christian Church in Winfield. The couple made their first home in Enid while finishing their education. Rhea began her teaching career in Paola, Kansas. The family later moved to Wichita where she taught at Riverview Elementary, and retired in 1997. After retirement, Ron and Rhea moved to a farm near Dexter, Kansas, where she enjoyed raising cattle and other farm animals.
She was a member of the Fairview Christian Church in Wichita. She enjoyed trips to Colorado to go camping and four-wheeling, going to movies and out to eat, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Her family includes her husband Ron of Dexter; her daughters, Kimberly Herndon of Rose Hill and fiancé, Mike Lay of Sedgwick; Jennifer Moreland and husband, Tony of Dexter; her brother Joe Gordon and wife, Florence of Winfield; and her grandchildren, Wesley Green and wife, Jessica; Logan Green and wife, Amanda; and Adam Herndon.
In addition to her parents, Rhea was preceded in death by a sister Jean Flower, a grandson Isaac Herndon, and a granddaughter Katelyn Green.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at the Dexter Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 4 to 8. The family will greet visitors during this time.
A memorial has been established in Rhea's name for Rivercross Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
