Obituary

Rex Hessee, 74, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Monday morning, May 22, 2023, at Winfield Rest Haven.

Born January 22, 1949, in Winfield, he was the son of Clarence and Laci (Widener) Hessee.  Rex was raised and received his education in Winfield.  In April 1966, Rex enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country until his honorable discharged in October 1969.  Rex worked at Safeway Grocery and Cessna Aircraft, before beginning his career at Boeing.  He retired in 2005 in Research and Development.

Rex married Linda Martin on July 22, 1972 in Winfield, Kansas, at Tisdale United Methodist Church.  The couple were later remarried at St. John The Evangelist Church in Clonmel, Kansas and made their home in Winfield.

Rex was a volunteer for the Arkansas City Reserve Police Department for many years.  He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church, as well as the Elk's Lodge, the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, and the Fly Fishing Club.  He enjoyed woodworking, fly fishing and fly tying.  He was an avid outdoorsman, a sports fan, especially Notre Dame, and loved a good western.

His family includes his wife Linda Hessee of Winfield; his son Michael "Eric" Troutman and wife, Angela of Pratt; his daughter Pamela Mason of Winfield; his sisters, Shirley Olds and husband, Larry of Anthony; Sharon Darnell and husband, Charlie of Harper; his grandchildren, Valarie Mason, Alex Bieberle, Tommy "TJ" Mason, Michael Mason, Trisha Troutman, and Isaiah Mason; and his great grandchildren, Leila, Marina, LaNiya, Amari, Khalil, Sidney, Alexandria, and Myles.

In addition to his parents, Rex was preceded in death by brothers, Jackie, William, and Elwaynn "Sonny" Hessee.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, May 26, 2023, at Holy Name Catholic Church.  Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Winfield.  The Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 P.M., Thursday evening at the church.

Memorials have been established in Rex's name for Holy Name Catholic School and for the Alzheimer's Association.  Contributions may be made through Miles Funeral Service.
