Rex A. Bruner, 73 , of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Friday morning, June 25, 2021, at his home.
Born May 14, 1948, in Hoisington, Kansas, he was the son of Dwight Arlan and Lee Ora (Crain) Bruner. The family moved to Shidler, Oklahoma while Rex was young, and there he was raised and received his education. He graduated from Shidler High School in 1966. Following high school he moved to Winfield, to begin his career at Binney & Smith.
He was united in marriage to Mary E. Thomson on July 12, 1969, in Winfield, where the couple made their home and raised their children. Rex remained at Binney & Smith most of his career, working as a supervisor in the Plastics Department. He briefly left to work as the Plant Manager at Mid-Tech in McPherson, Kansas. He returned to his position at Binney & Smith four years later where he remained until the plant closing in 1997. The remainder of Rex's career was spent at various jobs in Kansas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas, until returning to Winfield and ending his career at Calmar. Mary preceded him in death on May 27, 2008.
Rex enjoyed tinkering on small projects around the home, golfing, NASCAR, Royals Baseball, and spending time with his grandsons.
His family includes his sons, Matthew Bruner and wife, Phim of Broken Arrow, OK; Christopher Bruner and wife, Teri of Winfield; his brothers, Guy Bruner and wife, Janice of Eldon, MO; Eddie Bruner of Choctaw, OK; his sister Becky Wentworth and husband, Craig of Tyler, TX; and his grandsons, Alex Bruner of Edmond, OK; Chase Bruner of Broken Arrow, OK; Aiden Bruner of Winfield; Karsten Bruner of Winfield; and Jett Bruner of Winfield.
Rex was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, and his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, July 1, 2021, at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled at the funeral home on Wednesday evening, June 30, 2021, from 4 to 8. The family will greet visitors from 5 to 7 that evening.
A memorial has been established in Rex's name for his grandsons' education. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
