Obituary

Rex Lee Beeney, 72, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Friday night, November 24, 2023, at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Center in Wichita.

Born November 1, 1951 in Parsons, he was the son of Kenneth Lee, Jr. and Betty Lou (Geoffroy) Beeney.  Rex spent his first 11 years living in Erie, before moving to Liberal in 1961, and finally to Arkansas City in 1963.  He finished his education there, graduating from Arkansas City High School in 1969.  Following high school, Rex received an associate's degree from Cowley County Community College.  He studied music education for a short time at Emporia State University.

On October 4, 1980, Rex was united in marriage to Doris Ann (Bacon) Hollembeak at Grace United Methodist Church in Winfield.  The couple made their home in Winfield.  Rex worked for many years at Crayola, LLC, formerly Binney & Smith Company, working his way into managerial roles.  He also worked at the Cowley County Jail, Webster Engineering, and Calmar.

Rex was a member of Cornerstone Bible Fellowship Church where he enjoyed singing on the worship team.  Rex was truly gifted musically.  He was able to play "Taps" on the trumpet for military funeral honors for veterans.  He also had the opportunity to go on a mission trip to the Czech Republic where he learned to sing "Amazing Grace" in their language.  Additionally, Rex was a member of the Winfield Lions Club and served on the Big Brothers Big Sisters board for a time.  He also enjoyed playing golf and bowling.

His family includes his wife Doris Beeney of Winfield; children, Rebecca "Becky" Beltran and husband, Manuel of Derby; Brett Beeney and wife, Kristi of Winfield; grandchildren, Angelica, Isaiah, Alicia, Aiden, Xavier, Ayanna, Sophia, Zachary, Andreas, and Adrian; great-grandson Levi; sister Debbie Kindred and husband, Jeff of Mulvane; nieces, Amy and Sara; nephew Kyle; beloved dog Odie; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Kenneth Beeney and Betty Prather, Rex was preceded in death by a step-son Keith Hollembeak.

The family will hold a memorial service on Sunday, December 10, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Cornerstone Bible Fellowship Church in Winfield.  Arrangements are under the direction of Miles Funeral Service.
