Reneé Elizabeth Hoover, 59, of Winfield, Kansas passed away on June 18, 2020. She was born on March 4, 1961 to Bill and Janet (Harms) Headrick in Dodge City, Kansas. She graduated Arkansas City High School in 1979 and then attended Kansas University for two years. She met Larry at Cowley County Fair in 1981, transferred to Kansas State to be with him, and finished her degree in elementary education.

On July 16, 1982, Reneé and Larry were married at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Arkansas City, Kansas.

After graduation, Reneé and Larry moved to Winfield, Kansas in 1984. Reneé worked at Foster's Furniture and kept their books while substitute teaching. In 1986, she was hired as a kindergarten teacher at Lowell Elementary, where she would go on to teach for 30 years, touching the lives of hundreds and hundreds of children.

She was a loving teacher, and in 1989, with the birth of Reneé and Larry's first son, Quentin, she became a loving mother. Reece was born in 1991, and when Tucker followed in 1995, the Hoover family was complete. Reneé loved her three boys more than anything.

In 1998, Larry and Reneé built their dream home on Larry's family farm ground to raise their boys. Reneé enjoyed life on the farm and always helped Larry with cattle. Reneé could be found bottle feeding calves, hauling hay, filling water tanks, giving shots and filling feed bunks. She also loved dogs, and if she could have, she would have adopted all the dogs out of the humane society.

Reneé loved sports, and despite raising three Kansas State graduates, she was adamant about cheering for KU basketball. While her boys were young, Reneé attended every game, match and meet. Everyone knew when Reneé had arrived, as she would cheer until she was hoarse. The family jokes that the referees knew her even several counties over.

Reneé was an avid reader, movie goer and music lover. She always had the latest novel on her nightstand, could name every actor in any film and loved everything from Carole King to Marvin Gaye. She had many sayings she was fond of, including "Not my monkey, not my circus", "Better buckle-up buttercup, it's going to be a long ride", and "Be smart, be safe and have fun."

Reneé was a phenomenal cook and loved providing nourishment for her families, especially around the holidays. Her signature dishes are numerous, but the family's favorites are her salsa, sopa, fried chicken and seven-layer cookies.

More than anything, Reneé loved her family. Larry and their three boys were her life, and she was never happier than when everyone was home at the farm, together.

Reneé is preceded in death by her mother, Janet Harms Headrick, and her sister, Robin Headrick Campbell. She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Larry Hoover, of Winfield, KS; her three sons, Quentin (Libbie) Hoover of Overland Park, KS; Reece Hoover of Greeley, CO; Tucker (Abby) Hoover of Kansas City, MO; her beloved dog, Cooper; her father, Bill (Linda) Headrick of Arkansas City, KS; her brother, Rock (Ann) Headrick of Arkansas City, KS; brother-in-law Ken Campbell of Olathe, KS; sister-in-law Julie Seitz, of Oxford, KS; brother-in-law Lou Hoover of Winfield, KS; nieces Sydney Campbell of Olathe, KS, Samantha (Stephen) Thomsen of Shawnee, KS, Janelle (Cameron) Headrick of Northglenn, CO, Jillian Headrick of Arkansas City, KS; nephews: Garrett Hoover of Winfield, KS, John Tyler Seitz of Overland Park, KS and Conner Seitz of Charlotte, NC and uncle Mark (Marilyn) Harms of Chanute, KS.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, June 23 from 4-8pm at Miles Funeral Service. The family will greet visitors from 4 to 6 that evening. Due to COVID-19, the family asks that you please wear a mask to the visitation.  Private family services will be held at the family farm with interment to follow at Mt. Vernon Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial funds be made to the Cowley County Humane Society or the Winfield USD 465 High School Foundation in Reneé's name. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
