Reba Venable, 73, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday afternoon, April 13, 2023, at her home.
Born December 6, 1949, in Wetumka, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Alvie Ray and Dessie May (Pickett) Wagoner. She was raised and received her education in Grainola, Oklahoma and later Dexter, Kansas, graduating from Dexter High School in 1968. After school, she began working at the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center.
She was united in marriage to Darel G. Venable on June 21, 1969, in Sedan, Kansas. The couple made their first home in Winfield and Reba was a dedicated homemaker. She later opened an in-home daycare, which she ran until moving to Dexter in 1983. While in Dexter, Reba owned and operated Vinnie's Cafe until 1998. Darel preceded her in death on March 27, 1998. Reba then moved to Cedar Vale where she worked at the Hilltop Cafe until retiring in 2003. She later moved to Winfield to be near family.
She was a member of Foraker Pentecostal Church. She enjoyed cooking, fishing, gardening, being outdoors, spending time with family, and going to the casino.
Her family includes her children, Tracy (Shannon) Bruce; Greg (Jenny) Venable; Brendon (Lacey) Venable; her bonus children, Jerrid (Dawn) Thompson; Jessica (Colby) Campbell; Sissie (Jay) Moore; her sister Judy (Mark) Nelson; her grandchildren, Lane (Justine) Bruce; Piper and Wyatt Busch; Logan (Holli) Bruce; Bryce Venable; Reese (Emma) Venable; Noble Venable; Riley Venable; and Audrey Venable; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Reba was preceded in death by two sisters, Marilyn Leith and Sue Edwards.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at 10:00 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Maple City Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 4 to 6 that evening.
A memorial has been established in Reba's name for the Winfield Food Pantry. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
