Raymond Arthur Patterson, 72, of Winfield, passed away Saturday afternoon, January 9, 2021 at his home.

Born February 11, 1948 in Winfield, he was the son of Raymond Woodrow and Myrtle Irene (McKinnis) Patterson.  He was educated in Winfield; Upton, Wyoming; and Moorcroft, Wyoming, where he graduated from high school.  After high school, Ray enlisted in the United States Air Force and served for eight years.  Only six months after his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Raymond decided to enlist in the United States Marine Corps to serve his country for twelve more years, retiring in 1988.

Raymond met his wife, Gloria Jean Best, a day before he left for Marine Corps bootcamp, and the couple was married while he was stationed in Atoka, Tennessee.  Raymond and Gloria made their home wherever the military took them, including California and Louisiana.  In December 2009, the couple settled in Winfield.  Raymond spent his time hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife and best friend of 45 years, Gloria Patterson of Winfield; and two step sons, Trevor Dierolf of Colorado; and Christopher House of Tennessee.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

A memorial has been established in Raymond's name for the Alzheimer's Association.  Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
