RAYMOND MCKINNIS, 78, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Monday morning, May 12, 2008 at William Newton Hospital in Winfield.

Born on March 6, 1930 in Meade, Kansas, he was the son of Robert and Ida P. (Takenhorst) McKinnis. At the age of 6, the family moved to Skelly, Texas. He received his education in Skelly and later Dumas, Texas. At the early age of 16, Raymond began working for the railroad and at the age of 18 entered the United States Navy. After serving in the military, he moved to Haysville, Kansas where he was employed at Boeing Aircraft.

He was united in marriage to Patricia Jean Evans on April 5, 1958 in Winfield. In 1959, Raymond returned to the United States Navy and served until 1971. Raymond then worked at Southwestern College in Winfield in the maintenance department. In 1979 he began employment at Cessna Aircraft, working in maintenance until 1987. He also hauled water for Butler Brothers Trucking and was a security guard at Southwestern College. Mrs. McKinnis preceded him in death in 2006.

Raymond enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and fishing.

His daughters: Kim Allen and husband Michael of Winfield, KS; and Robin Zimmerman and husband Duncan of Winfield, KS;
His sister: Mary Louise Lackey of Jay, OK;
His grandchildren: Michael McKinnis, and Brandy, Kandi, Angela and Isaiah Allen; and
His great-granddaughter: Emily McKinnis.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Calvin and Donnie McKinnis and his sister, Doris Frier.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, May 16, 2008 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Military committal honors will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 to 9:00 P.M., Thursday, May 15, 2008.
