Raymond Lewis Biddle, 93, of Winfield, Kansas died February 24, 2020.
Rosary at 6:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 1, 2020, and Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, March 2, 2020 at 10:30 A.M., both at Holy Name Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled at Miles Funeral Service on Sunday afternoon from 2 to 4 P.M. The family will greet visitors during this time.
Raymond was born August 22, 1926 in Cowley County, at home, west of Winfield to Jesse Amos and Elsie Ethel (Ramsey) Biddle and was one of eight children. Raymond graduated from Winfield High School in 1944 and entered the U.S. Navy. He served as a Navy Seaman and was honorably discharged in 1946.
Raymond married Mary Cecil Bonewell on April 7, 1947 at Holy Name Catholic Church in Winfield. After their wedding, Raymond and Mary lived on their farm north of Winfield their entire lives. Raymond was a farmer first, but also did carpentry and oil field work, working for Bob Sherrard Builders, Richardson Brothers and several oil field service companies.
Raymond and Mary loved to square dance. He was an avid bowler, competing in state tournaments with the Knights of Columbus League. He also enjoyed coaching State Farm Babe Ruth baseball teams. Raymond loved sports, especially the New York Yankees, the KU Jayhawks basketball team, and the Kansas City Chiefs. He also enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play all of their sports. Raymond was also a third-degree member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, BPOE (Elks), and Holy Name Parish.
Raymond and Mary had 11 children, 40 grandchildren, 86 great grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and love of his life, Mary, son-in-law Jerry Dean, three sisters, Marjorie, Lila, and Mable, two brothers, Leonard and Lawrence, granddaughter Angela Biddle, and great grandsons Marco Antonio Villapondo and Gabriel Easterling.
Raymond is survived by children, Kay (Dennis) Kinsella, Lois Dean, Richard (Sherry) Biddle, Mike (Jana) Biddle, Ann (Kevin) Easterling, Pat (Kristi) Biddle, Mark Biddle, Carol (Mark) Ohm, Matt (Monica) Biddle, Jane (Jeff) Hatcher, Jess (Beth) Biddle, brother Ralph (Patricia) Biddle, and sister Shirley Rush, as well as 40 grandchildren, 86 great grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Holy Name Catholic School. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
