Obituary

Raylene Butler, 78, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Sunday evening, April 22, 2018 at Winfield Senior Living.

Born May 7, 1939 in Winfield, Kansas, she was the daughter of Raymond and Maxine (Feaster) Andes. She was raised and received her education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1957.

On August 4, 1957, she was united in marriage to Garold "Gary" Butler at the First Christian Church in Winfield. The couple made their home in Winfield. Raylene was a daycare provider for over 40 years, retiring in 1997. She watched many of the children she cared for, have children of their own and cared for them as well.

Raylene was a devoted member of First Christian Church, now Aviator Church in Winfield. She was active as an Elder, Deaconess, wedding planner, youth leader and Sunday school teacher until her health would no longer allow it. She was also a member of Queen City Chapter 138, Order of the Eastern Star, and the Order of the Rainbow for Girls. She loved to cook, read, and work in her flower gardens and was a great listener and advisor. She especially loved spending time with her family. She and Gary met when they were 13 and 15 years old and enjoyed playing the fiddle and guitar. Her children's fondest memories include singing gospel music together at family get togethers. She was a mother and grandmother to many people.

Her husband: Garold Butler of Winfield;
Her children: Debra Starkey and husband, Tom of Wellington; Susan Mayes and husband, Jim of Hutchinson; Brett Butler and wife, Mary of Winfield;
Her grandchildren: Shannon Shilling and husband, Travis, Brandon Starkey, Zachary Butler, Jessica Butler; and
Her great grandchildren: Landon, Reagan and Hudson Shilling.

Raylene was preceded in death by her father, Raymond in 1993 and her mother, Maxine in 2011.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday from 5 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 5 to 7 that evening.

Memorials have been established in Raylene's name for St. Jude Children's Hospital and for the Shriners Children's Hospital. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
