RAY L. BRUCE, 58, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at his home.

Born on July 18, 1950, in Roscoe County, Missouri, he was the son of Ray and Lena (Huff) Bruce. He was raised in Roscoe County, El Dorado Springs, Missouri, and later Winfield, Kansas. Ray worked at Albertson's IGA in Winfield.

He was united in marriage on December 26, 1971 to Peggy J. Shields in Winfield where the couple made their home. He began employment at the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center as a Licensed Mental Health Technician II until 1985 when failing health forced him to retire.

Ray was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Winfield. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, garage sales and auctions, and traveling, especially to Branson, Missouri.

His daughter: Jana Bruce and companion Mark Butcher of Wichita, KS;
His mother: Lena Bruce of Winfield, KS;
His step-mother: Charlotte Bruce of Atlanta, KS;
His brothers: Garry Bruce and wife Virginia of Enid, OK; Joe Bruce and wife Tonya of Atlanta, KS; and Jay Bruce of Atlanta, KS;
His sisters: Joyce Haines and husband Paul of El Dorado Springs, MO;
His grandchildren: Alexander, Abigail, Andrew, Mark II, Journey, Maximos and Macarthur; and
A host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, January 10, 2009 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at the Tisdale Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5:00 to 9:00 P.M., Friday, January 9, 2009. The family will greet friends from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M., that evening.

Memorials have been established in Ray's name for Winfield Isle of Lights and Hospice Care of Kansas. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
