Rama Kay (Knox) Sorell, 76, of Winfield, KS, passed away Wednesday evening, September 15, 2021 at William Newton Hospital in Winfield, KS after a brief illness.
Born November 26, 1944 in Washington County, KS, she was the daughter of Carlos Knox and Rose (Bowmaker) Knox. She was raised in Clifton, KS graduating from Clifton High School. She began her career as a beautician after graduating from beauty school. She later provided in-house day care for young children for over 35 years in Winfield, KS.
She was united in marriage to (Darell) Dean Sorell on November 28, 1963 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Clifton, KS. The couple made their first home in Concordia, KS before moving to Winfield in 1973 where Dean worked as the store manager of a new Boogaart's Food Store.
Rama was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church. She served on the Holy Name Altar Society and devotedly organized the parish Prayer Line for many years. She had a deep devotion to the prayers of the rosary which she prayed many times for all family and friends. She enjoyed several international trips to many religious sites in Italy, Spain, France, Portugal and the Holy Land in Israel.
Rama's hobbies included making and decorating cakes, tending to her roses and tomato plants, feeding hummingbirds, watching Royals baseball on TV and cheering for Kansas State football and basketball teams. Rama also enjoyed making personalized greeting cards for friends and family for special occasions and encouragement during hard times.
Her family includes children, Mark (Traci) Sorell of Wagoner, OK; Misty Sorell of Oklahoma City, OK; her two grandchildren Rylee (Caitlin) Nagar of Austin, TX and Carlos Sorell of Wagoner, OK; her sister-in-law Sandy Brown of McLoud, OK; niece Gabrielle (Dustin) Henry and grandniece Emma; and numerous other nieces and nephews. Her siblings include Shirley Marshall of Clyde, KS; Lana Carlson of Clay Center, KS; Darwin (Verna Mae) Knox of Clifton, KS and Ronnie (June) Knox of Edmond, OK.
In addition to her parents, Rama was preceded in death by her husband Dean, sisters Imateen Brown and Georgia Barnes, and brother Bruce Knox.
A rosary will be held on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at 7:00pm with a Mass of Christian Burial being held on Friday, September 24th at 2:00pm at Holy Name Catholic Church in Winfield, KS. Interment will follow on Saturday, September 25th at 11:00am at the St. Joseph Catholic Church and Cemetery in St. Joseph, KS. The family asks that all attendees please wear masks.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established in Rama's name to the Holy Name Catholic Church Altar Society in Winfield, Kansas and for the Guardians of St. Joseph Church Foundation, PO Box 301, Clyde, KS 66938. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
