Priscilla L. "Tallu" Rivers, 84, of Grenola, Kansas, passed away May 8, 2015, at her home.
Priscilla was born Nov. 7, 1930, in Cedar Vale, Kansas, to Gilbert L. and Enah A. (Nelson) Liebau. She was raised in Cedar Vale and Grenola, Kansas, and eventually Laramie, Wyoming. She graduated from Laramie High School in 1948 and from the College of Education at the University of Wyoming in 1953.
In July of 1955, Priscilla married Roland B. "Ron" Rivers in Laramie. While her husband played basketball and worked for the Phillips Petroleum Company, Priscilla continued her lifelong career as an educator. She taught in four states and retired in May of 1996 from USD #462 Central of Burden in Kansas. Mr. Rivers preceded in death January 14, 1990.
Mrs. Rivers dedicated her life to teaching children to learn and think. She was a fan of Thomas Jefferson, the U.S. Constitution, John Wayne and never straddling a fence.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother F.G. "Buck" Liebau and sister-in-law Joann Liebau.
Survivors include her son, Randl Rivers and wife, Kristy, of Nokomis, Florida.; daughters Ronda R. Stone and husband, Clay, of Emporia, Kansas and Robin Rivers of Grenola, Kansas; four grandchildren, Spencer and Harrison Stone, Logan and wife, Whitney Rivers, and Kelsey Rivers; a great-granddaughter, Ellie; numerous nieces and nephews; and cowboy companion, Charley Chambers.
Cremation has been effected. A visitation will be held at Miles Funeral Service on Thursday, May 14, 2015 from 3 to 7 P.M. The family will greet friends during this time. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Wounded Warrior Project or Hillsdale College. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
