Obituary

Phyllis A. Wilcoxen, 90, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Tuesday morning, June 27, 2023, at Presbyterian Manor in Arkansas City.

Born March 1, 1933, in Winfield, she was the daughter of Ralph and Emma (Janke) Falkingham.  She was raised on farms in the Rock and Winfield areas, graduating from Winfield High School in 1951.  She later returned to school where she obtained her LPN license.

Phyllis married Paul Parsons on March 27, 1954.  They made their first home in Ft. Carson, Colorado, where Paul was stationed in the Army.  They later returned to Winfield. After receiving her LPN license, she started her career in the medical field at the Cedar Vale Hospital until moving to William Newton Hospital.  Phyllis and Paul had six children and the couple later divorced.

Phyllis was united in marriage to Jerry Lee Wilcoxen on December 17, 1983, in Medford, Oklahoma.  The couple made their home in Winfield where Phyllis continued her career at William Newton Hospital until retiring.  Jerry preceded her in death on May 5, 2017.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.  She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, knitting, and crocheting.  She also enjoyed baking cookies for Grace United Methodist Church.

Her family includes her children, Eric Parsons and wife, Donna of Winfield; Mike Parsons and wife, JoLynn of Burden; Kevin Parsons and wife, Shari of Arkansas City; David Parsons and wife, Teresa of Dexter; Pamela Gordon of Winfield; Teresa Waits Sherrard and husband, Duane of Winfield; her step children, Thomas Wilcoxen of Arkansas City; Teresa Woodward and husband, John of Wichita Falls, Texas; and her many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Phyllis was preceded in death by her sisters, Barbara Dobbs, Muriel Shaffer, and Janet Miller, her brothers, John Falkingham and Elmer Falkingham, a grandson Christopher Waits, son-in-law Calvin Waits, grandson-in-law Charles Velz, and step sons, Jack and Roger Wilcoxen.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, July 3, 2023, at Miles Funeral Service.  Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery.  A visitation is scheduled at the funeral home on Sunday from 2 to 6 P.M.  The family will greet visitors from 2 to 4 that afternoon.

A memorial has been established in Phyllis' name for Grace United Methodist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
