Obituary

PHYLLIS M. TRIPLETT, 89, of Wichita, Kansas, and former Burden, Kansas resident, passed away Wednesday evening, January 26, 2011 at the Clarebridge Nursing Home in Wichita.

Born on December 1, 1921 in rural Woods County, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Arnold and Francis (Dotterer) Garman. In 1926, the family moved to Driftwood near Kiowa, Kansas. She graduated from Kiowa High School in 1940.

She was united in marriage to Claude L. Triplett on October 31, 1941 in Wellington, Kansas. Phyllis was employed at Coleman in Wichita and later Boeing Aircraft as an inspector. During this time she was a member of the Women's Auxiliary Corps and was honorably discharged on August 11, 1943. The couple moved to Burden, Kansas in 1949. She worked for Hittle Gas Service in Winfield and later at Gibsons. She also helped her husband on their farm. The couple moved to Wichita in 1983 to be near family. Mr. Triplett preceded her in death on May 1, 1988.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Wichita where she had served as the secretary for the SAM Sunday school class. She was also a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, 20th Century Club and the Sunflower Club. Her hobbies included bowling, reading, and watching baseball games including the NBC tournaments. Phyllis received recognition of Claude's participation as a NBC All Star and her for being a NBC supporter.

Her daughter-in-law: Jean Triplett of Leavenworth, KS;
Her brothers: Richard Garman of Kiowa, KS; and Dean Delmar Garman of Rogers, AR;
Her sister: Juanita Eckert of Kiowa, KS;
Her grandson: Brian Triplett of VA;
Her twin great-grandsons: Brett Douglas and Chase Vincent Triplett of VA; and
A host of cousins, nephews and nieces.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Doug Triplett; her brother, Arnold Garman; and her sisters, Leona Riley and Alice Ricke.

Funeral Services will be held 1:00 P.M., Monday, January 31, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church, 330 N. Broadway in Wichita. Interment with military honors will take place at 4:00 at the Burden Cemetery in Burden. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield on Sunday, January 30, 2011 from 2:00 to 6:00 P.M. A viewing at the First United Methodist Church in Wichita will be held on Monday from 10:00 A.M., until service time.

A memorial has been established in Mrs. Triplett's name for the Friends of the Pipe Organ Fund at the First United Methodist Church in Wichita. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
