Obituary

Phyllis Raber, 81, of Augusta, Kansas, passed away Wednesday morning, September 19, 2018 at Kansas Medical Center in Andover.

Born October 18, 1936 in Geuda Springs, Kansas, she was the daughter of Guy Austin and Ada Idel (Cadwalder) Scott. She was raised and received her education in Geuda Springs and Arkansas City.

Phyllis was united in marriage to Merle G. Raber on March 13, 1954 in McPherson, Kansas where the couple made their first home. Phyllis worked at Graves Drug Store and later Boeing. She then attended St. Francis School of Nursing where she graduated as an LPN. She began her nursing career at St. Francis Hospital and also worked at Augusta Medical Complex and McConnell Air Force Base. Phyllis continued working as a nurse for over 20 years, retiring from McConnell Air Force Base in 1992. Merle Raber preceded her in death on May 31, 2013.

Phyllis joined the Order of The Eastern Star in Winfield in November 1972. She enjoyed gambling, traveling and going on Senior Bus Trips. Above all, she loved family gatherings and spoiling Freckles, her dog, and Pepper, her cat.

Her family includes her sons, Larry Raber and wife, Kathy of Augusta; Kenneth Raber and wife, Tina of Olathe; Kelly Raber and wife, Linda of Topeka; her grandchildren, Jeffrey Raber, Ryan Raber, Rebecca Brewer and husband, Adam, and Kori Shepherd and husband, Chris; and her three great granddaughters, Lainey, Ella, and Addie.

In addition to her parents and husband, Phyllis was preceded in death by her seven siblings.

A visitation is scheduled for Sunday, September 23, 2018 from 2 P.M. to 6 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 4 to 6 that afternoon. Funeral services will be held the following Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Private inurnment will take place at Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta at a later date.

A memorial has been established in Phyllis' name for the Cowley County Humane Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
