Obituary

Phyllis J. Potter, 78, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Sunday morning, March 11, 2012 at William Newton Hospital in Winfield, Kansas.

Born January 15, 1934 in Arkansas City, Kansas, she was the daughter of Marshall and Francis (Stocking) Hill. She was raised and received her education in Arkansas City, graduating from Arkansas City High School in 1952. After graduating she attended Cowley County Community College.

Phyllis was united in marriage to Raymond Potter on June 28, 1954 at the First United Methodist Church in Arkansas City. The couple made their first home in Winfield where they owned and operated several business, including Ray Potter Appliance and Furniture.

She was an avid golfer and tennis player. She won the City Tennis Championship, and the Winfield County Club Golf Championship. She was on the Board of KWGA, as well as serving on the Board of Trustees for the Winfield Country Club. She was also a past president of the Winfield Golf Association.

Phyllis' family includes:
Her husband: Raymond Potter of Winfield;
Her son: Stan Potter of Winfield;
Her granddaughter: Tara Ingram of Winfield;
Her grandson: Dylan Potter of Kansas City; and
Her great grandsons: Austin and Cole Ingram.

In addition to her parents Phyllis was preceded in death by her son Ray Potter, Jr., and her sister, Donna Mueller.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made in Phyllis' name for the Ray Potter Jr., Basketball Scholarship Program at Southwestern College in Winfield. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
