Phyllis A. Mayfield, 84, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away late Tuesday night, December 8, 2020 at the Kansas Heart Hospital.
Born January 21, 1936 in Winfield, she was the daughter of Floyd J. and Dorothy I. (Porter) Ripper. She was raised and received her education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1954. Phyllis worked as a clerk at Woolworth during high school.
Phyllis was united in marriage to Billy "Bill" Mayfield on November 29, 1953 at the United Brethren Church in Winfield. The couple made their home in Winfield where Phyllis worked as a switchboard operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. She later worked as a teller at First National Bank and a secretary at Snyder Clinic. She then went to work at the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center as an office clerk until retiring in the 1990's. Following retirement, Phyllis worked at Graves Drug for several years.
She was a member of New Hope Fellowship Church. She enjoyed riding horses, shopping with her good friend, Sharon Crittenden, going on bus tours to Branson, and watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren ride in junior rodeos. Phyllis was a true good friend.
Her family includes her husband Bill Mayfield of Winfield; her children, Denise Crittenden and husband, Chad of Winfield; Dennis Mayfield and wife, Kim of South Coffeyville; her sister-in-law Pat Ripper of Topeka; her grandchildren, Brian Mayfield and wife, Lindsay of Oxford; Brandi Mayfield and fiancé, Jeff Finney of Tyro; Dustin Crittenden and wife, Stacie of Winfield; Jared Crittenden and wife, Melissa of Winfield; her great grandchildren, Madison, Lane, Ava, and Grace Mayfield; Aubrie and Triton Mayfield; Emma Charvat and Barrett Dean Crittenden; and Cora Fay Crittenden.
In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her brother Richard Ripper.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at 10:00 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Inurnment will follow at Highland Cemetery.
Memorials have been established in Phyllis' name for New Hope Fellowship Church and for Camp Like Max. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
