PHYLLIS JOAN HUDSON, 81, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday evening, November 8, 2012 at Cumbernauld Village in Winfield.
Born on September 21, 1931 in Cambridge, Kansas, she was the daughter of Sam Lewis and Ruby Florence (Weaver) Pickens. She was raised and received her education in Cambridge until 1942 when she moved to Winfield and graduated from Winfield High School in 1949.
She was united in marriage on July 30, 1951 to Lloyd C. Hudson in Missouri. The couple lived in Derby and Wichita, Kansas as well as Eureka Springs and Arkansas. Phyllis had been employed for Rent A Center and Jim Coffey Insurance both in Derby. Mr. Hudson preceded her in death on November 12, 1985.
She was a member of the Kiwanis and Lions Clubs in Derby and attended the Presbyterian Church in Derby. Phyllis spent many hours as a PTA volunteer and other school activities. She had also been a CMT for the Derby Ambulance service. She loved spending time with her family, sewing, cooking, homemade ice cream and left a legacy of recipes.

Her sons: Daniel L. Hudson and wife Michelle of Coppell, TX; Leland K. Hudson and wife Diane of Henderson, NV; and Brian R. Hudson and wife Donna of Carrollton, TX;
Her daughters: Teresa K. McPeak of Overland Park, KS; and Pamela D. Hudson of Ft. Worth, TX;
Her brother: Bennie Pickens and wife Jackie of Winfield, KS:
Her grandchildren: Carly McPeak, Kyle Hill and husband David, Connor Hudson, Sam Hudson and wife Kalynn and Tom Hudson; and
Her great-granddaughter: Layla Hill.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her brother, Sam Lewis Jr., and her sister, Lois N. Meade.
Memorial services will be held at 4:00 P.M., Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.
A memorial has been established in Mrs. Hudson's name for Cumbernauld Village. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
