PHYLLIS J. (ELLINGER) BURGOYNE 85, devoted wife, mother, and homemaker of Wichita, Kansas, passed away Wednesday afternoon, November 4, 2009 at the Catholic Care Center at The Meadows in Wichita, Kansas.
Born on December 17, 1923 in Winfield, Kansas, she was the daughter of Frank Leslie and Etha (Benjamen) Ellinger. She was raised in the Tisdale community and attended school there until the seventh grade. She was active in 4-H and there began singing solos for the church, weddings and funerals. She attended junior high and high school in Winfield and graduated from Winfield High School in 1941.
Phyllis was employed for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Winfield, and Strother Field during World War II, and later in Wichita. Phyllis also worked for the Physicians Exchange in Wichita.
She was united in marriage to Max H. Burgoyne on January 20, 1946 in Winfield and they celebrated their sixty-third anniversary in 2009. Her greatest achievement was raising their four children. She especially enjoyed her time as a Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader.
Phyllis was a former member of the Tisdale United Methodist Church. She currently was a member of the Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church in Wichita and could always be depended upon to provide service to her church through singing in the choir, and food preparation. Phyllis was especially known for her chicken noodle dinners. She took great pleasure in cooking, traveling, playing "Wheel of Fortune", and spoiling her grandchildren.

Her grandchildren: Gary Hankins and wife Cheryl; Craig Hankins and wife Sonya; Christopher Hankins and wife Amber; Cooper Edgington and Laura Edgington;
And 9 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Ellinger.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at the Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, 3515 S. Elizabeth, Wichita, Kansas. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M., that afternoon at Highland Cemetery in Winfield. The family will greet visitors from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M., on Monday, November 9, at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield.
A memorial has been established in Mrs. Burgoyne's name for the Tisdale United Methodist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
