Obituary

Phyllis Irene McCoy Blenden, 89, departed this life on November 9, 2015 in Colleyville, Texas at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Pam Blenden.

Phyllis was born February 20, 1926 in Dexter, Kansas, to Peter John Price and Gladys McCoy. She lived most of her life in Cowley County, Kansas. She attended Dexter Public Schools and graduated from Dexter High School in 1943. She briefly moved to Sunnyvale, California with her best friend and future sister-in-law, Dorothy Blenden, to live with relatives, where she worked in a civil defense position for six months before becoming homesick and returning to Kansas. She later worked for the local telephone company and as a secretary for Mauer-Neuer meat packing plant. After serving in the U.S. Navy in WWII, Dorothy's brother returned home and within the year, Phyllis and Lyle Harvey Blenden were married on May 5, 1946 at the First Presbyterian Church in Arkansas City, Kansas.

Lyle and Phyllis made their home in Winfield, Kansas where Lyle owned the Winfield Club later renamed LBJs. Phyllis was a homemaker, mother and bookkeeper for 30 years.

Phyllis was an active member of the First Christian Church. She taught Sunday School for many years and was a member of Christian Women's Fellowship, volunteering on numerous committees. Phyllis and Lyle enjoyed their annual fishing vacations and their lives focused around their family and friends.

Survivors include:
Her daughter: Diane Sudmalis (Laimons) of Evergreen, CO;
Son: Mark Blenden (Pam) of Colleyville, TX;
Nieces: Debbie Clemons of Austin, TX; and Nancy Peacock of Winfield, KS;
Five grandsons: Brian Blenden (Mandie) of Corinth, TX; Aaron Blenden (Jenni) of Soddy Daisy, TN; David Tollefson and Adam Tollefson of Bedford, TX; and Andris Sudmalis of Evergreen, CO;
Five great grandchildren: Grace, Emma, Kaleb, Noah and Julia Blenden.
Extended family includes, Kaeran Sudmalis Testi (Geno) of San Clemente, CA; Zachary (Sheilah) and Brynn Martin of Dana Point, CA; and Erin and Shae Sudmalis of Steamboat Springs, CO.

She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Billy Joe McCoy, husband, Lyle Blenden, daughter Janet Tollefson, and grandson, Eriks Sudmalis.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday evening from 4 to 7. The family will greet visitors during this time.

A memorial has been established in Phyllis' name for the Janet Tollefson Garden Memorial Fund at Concordia Lutheran Church in Bedford, Texas. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
