Phillips D. Wedd, 88, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday night, July 11, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family.
Born September 29, 1935, in Ralston, Oklahoma, Phil was the son of Willard and Ruth (Quillan) Wedd. He was raised and received his education in Ralston, graduating from Ralston High School in 1954.
Phil married his high school sweetheart Martha Sue Teeman on January 14, 1956, in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The couple made their first home in Ralston, where Phil worked as a roughneck in the oilfields. In 1965, the couple moved to Winfield and Phil began working in the construction industry. Known for his expertise with concrete, he worked in construction and maintenance before retiring in 2000. Martha preceded him in death on July 9, 2015.
An avid wearer of pearlsnap shirts and trucker hats, Phil was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church and the Cherokee Stippers Camping Club. He enjoyed ice cream with his grandchildren, traveling around the U.S., and playing cards.
His family includes his sons, Russell Wedd and wife, Marilyn of Winfield; Rodney Wedd of Winfield; his daughter LeeAnn Cowan and husband, James of Stillwater, OK; his sister Willa Martin of Winfield; his brother John Wedd and wife, Carolyn of Ralston, OK; his grandchildren, Michelle Owens and husband, Michael Tapia, Monty Welch and wife, Nina, Sidnee Cowan; and his great grandchildren, Trey Wedd, David Owens, Megan Owens, Phillips David Welch, Tater Welch, and Emmett Welch.
In addition to his parents and wife, Phil was preceded in death by his sisters, Mabel Brien and Mary Alley and a son Timothy Wedd.
The funeral mass will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, July 19, 2024, at Holy Name Catholic Church under the direction of Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
A memorial has been established in Phil's name for Gentiva Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
