PHILLIP E. PORTER, 67, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Sunday evening, January 10, 2010 at his home.
Born on October 30, 1942 in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of Harvey Forrest and Mary Helen (Carlton) Porter. He was raised and received his education in Winfield. As a young man, Phil sold Christmas trees for Mr. Bumgardner. He later worked for Frances Mitchell learning how to upholster vehicles.
Mr. Porter served his country in the United States Navy in 1962. He returned to Winfield and worked at Crittendon's Body Shop. Phil and his brother Leonard later owned and operated a body shop together before he was employed at Kline Motors as the body shop manager. He retired in 2002 and was self employed at his house.
He was united in marriage on October 22, 1996 to Debbie Moor in Miami, Oklahoma. Phil enjoyed spending time with his family and was an avid car buff, especially drag racing. He also liked to hunt and gamble. He was a member of the American Legion Post #10 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3544.

His sisters: Dorothy Placette of TX; Juanita Gottlob and husband Dale of CO; Norma Hayden of WA; Carol Runnells of Newton, KS; Sandy Berwert and husband Ron of Winfield, KS; Andrea Shepherd and husband Bobby of Winfield, KS; Helen Ann Dickerson and husband Don of Arkansas City, KS; and Cleta Porter of Winfield, KS;
His grandchildren: Addam Porter of Arkansas City, KS; Haylee and Kaci Wilson, Nevaeh, Payton and Kaydence Tickel all of Winfield, KS;
His father and mother in law: Don & Margie Moor of Bella Vista, AR;
His brother and sister in law: Thom and Rebecca Moor of Mulvane, KS; and
A host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Leonard and Thomas; and his sisters, Agnes Winslow and Myrtle Barker.
Cremation has taken place.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, January 14, 2010 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Inurnment will follow at Highland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials in Phil's name be made to Hospice Care of Kansas. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
