PEARL MAE (RULE) RUGGLES, 76, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Wednesday evening, June 18, 2014 at her home.
Born June 29, 1937 in Camden, New Jersey, she was the daughter of Clarence Samuel Thomas and Mary Alma (Driver) Rule. She was raised and received her education in Glassboro, New Jersey graduating from Glassboro High School in 1955.
Pearl lived on the same road for her first 20 years of her life, until she met the love of her life, Melvin Walter Ruggles. They were married October 12, 1957 at the St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Glassboro, New Jersey. While Melvin served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in New Jersey, they made their home in Woodbury and Mullica Hill. Pearl worked for Brown, Blavault & McFarland Engineering Firm and Herbert H. Butler, Attorney in New Jersey.
In 1959, she and Melvin moved to Winfield, Kansas where they have lived since that time. Pearl secured a job with Roberts & Roberts, later becoming Herlocker, Roberts & Herlocker, where she remained until retiring on January 1, 2008.
Pearl was a long-time member of Tisdale United Methodist Church. She was a Sunday School teacher and served on many committees in the church. She volunteered at the hospital and was a member of the Red Hat Society, the United Methodist Women, and was a 4-H sewing and cooking leader for Liberty 4-H. Pearl enjoyed crocheting, reading, bowling, traveling and farming. She especially loved her church and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and going on adventures with them.

Her brothers: Harvey Rule of Troy, TN; Arthur Rule of Trenton, SC;
Her sister: Sarah Bair of Winfield;
Her grandchildren: Jessica Massey, Joshua Todd, Jarod and Kaitlin Todd, Peter Ruggles, Ruth Ruggles, Molly Ruggles, Benet Ruggles, Piper and Tessa Ruggles, Ty & Genna King, Cody and Abby Phillips, Casey and Miranda Phillips, Courtney Phillips and Carley Phillips;
Her great grandchildren: Drayton Massey, Jade and Jace Todd and Preslee and Clutch Phillips.
Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Mary Rule, her brothers, Clarence, Rupert, Frances, Kenneth and John Allen and her sister, Hilda Murray.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at Tisdale United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Rose Valley Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service on Monday, June 23, 2014 from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 5 to 7 that evening.
Memorials have been established in Pearl's name for the Tisdale United Methodist Church Gym Fund and for the Winfield Food Pantry. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
