Obituary

PAULINE MAE JONES, 82, lifelong member of the Prairie View Community, passed away Wednesday evening, April 1, 2009, at her home.

Born November 3, 1926 in the rural Prairie View community, she was the daughter of Earl V. and Laura M. (Lanier) Kennedy. At the age of 7, she began writing "The Viking" book which would be the first of a writing career that spanned more than 50 years. At around the age of 9, Pauline began caregiving for her grandmother. Pauline received her education in Atlanta and graduated from Atlanta High School in 1944.

She was united in marriage to Roy F. Jones on December 1, 1945 in El Dorado, Kansas. They made their home in rural Atlanta where the couple farmed. She worked for her aunt and uncle at their grocery store, Wakefield Grocery in Atlanta. Pauline was a fulltime homemaker and caregiver, both privately and professionally. In May of 1978 she received her associates degree from Cowley County Community College and was employed at the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center in Winfield. She was employed there until the early 90's.

In addition to writing for several area newspapers, Pauline had served as secretary for the Timber Creek Watershed and drove a bus for USD #462. In 1996, she was employed at Creative Community Living as a caregiver. She also enjoyed private caregiving at Cumbernauld Village. Pauline was employed at Healthworld II until October of 2008 when her health forced her to quit.

She was a member of the Prairie View Methodist Church. She had served as a Polo 4-H leader for 20 years and was a representative for Farm Bureau, serving on that board for several years. She enjoyed sewing, quiltmaking and making wedding cakes. She dearly loved spending time in her library where she spent hours writing.

Her family includes:
Her husband: Roy of the home;
Her daughters: Susan Dennett and husband Vernon of Burden, KS; Paulette Schadegg and husband Mike of Atlanta, KS;
Her brothers: Otis Kennedy and wife Delia of Winfield, KS; and Paul Kennedy and wife Rosie of Atlanta, KS;
