Obituary

PAULINE HOUSER, 96, of Arkansas City, previously of the Rock area, passed away Monday morning, June 27, 2011 at her home.

Born July 21, 1914 in Mulvane, Kansas, she was the daughter of Fred and Ethel Jane (Wheeler) Howard. She was raised in Mulvane and received her education in Mulvane and Douglass, graduating from Douglass High School in 1933.

Pauline was married to Charles William Dailey Houser, Jr. in Anthony, Kansas. The couple made their home in the Rock area. Pauline worked on the Clark ranch as a housekeeper and chauffer for a short time. She attended Dietician school, and graduated, scoring highest in her class. She worked at Wesley Medical Center as a Dietician's Assistant for 18 years with perfect attendance before retiring. The couple farmed in the Rock area. They lived in Kansas City for ten short years, before moving back to Rock. Mr. Houser preceded her in death on October 4, 1998.

Pauline was a member of the Rock United Methodist Church. She had most recently attended Harvest Fellowship Foursquare Church in Arkansas City. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and canning. She especially loved sewing and quilting.

Her children: Claudine Wiseman and husband, Bruce of Udall; Donna Ehmke and husband, Roger of Mulvane; Charles Houser and wife, Marge of Wichita; Woodrow Houser and wife, Sue of Derby; Carryl Houser-Routh of Bonner Springs; Virginia Macy and husband, Dick of Fort Worth, TX; Joe Houser and wife, Marie of Arkansas City; Paul Houser and wife, Brenda of Douglass; Millie Houser of Deer Park, TX; Ray Houser and wife, Dianna of South Haven; Chet Houser of South Haven; and Felix Houser of Mulvane;
Her brother: Lloyd Howard and wife, Vera of Douglass;
Her sisters: Edna Maness of Bonner Springs; Mildred Maddox of Wichita; Catherine Meyer and husband, Jack of Rock; and Anne Tabor and husband, Ray of Florida;
Her 35 grandchildren; 79 great grandchildren; and 24 great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Pauline was preceded in death by her brothers, Raymond and Paul Howard, and her sister, Jane Carr.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday evening, June 29, 2011 from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet friends from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M., that evening.

A memorial has been established in Pauline's name for the Salvation Army. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
