Obituary

PAUL FRED WESLEY, 90, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Monday afternoon, March 29, 2010 at the Kansas Veterans' Home.

Born March 9, 1920 in El Dorado, Kansas, Paul was one of seven children born to John Fred and Agnes (Goff) Wesley. He was raised and received his education in El Dorado, graduating from El Dorado High School in 1940. Paul began work with National Refining Company, after school, which became Farmland Industries in 1944.

On November 22, 1943 Paul entered the United States Navy and served on the LST 724 as a Motor Machinist's Mate second class in the Asiatic Pacific. He was honorably discharged in 1946 from the Navy. After his discharge, he returned to Farmland Industries. He was united in marriage to Ellen Louise Wilkinson on March 9, 1946 in Wichita, Kansas. The couple made their home in El Dorado until moving to Winfield in 1962. Paul continued working with Farmland Industries in Winfield. He had over 42 years of service when he retired on June 30, 1982 as Pipeline Foreman. Louise preceded him in death on March 6, 1983.

Paul was united in marriage to Verl Cadwell on July 30, 1983. The couple made their home in Winfield. Paul was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, as well as the Winfield Elk's Lodge #732, Winfield Lion's Club, and the American Legion Post #10. He was a lifetime member of the Arkansas City Veteran's of Foreign Wars #125 and was a very active volunteer for the William Newton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and a Lifeline program responder. Paul and his wife, Verl were chosen as the Cornerstone Award recipients in 2006. He loved to volunteer and spent many days driving for Meals on Wheels and Friendship Meals.

His step-daughters: Jennifer Brothers and husband, John of Winfield; and Kathy Seaman and husband, Ken of Wichita;
His twin sister: Pauline (Dolly) McCarty of Utah;
His grandson: Justin Eubank of Winfield;
His step-grandsons: Jamie Brothers and wife, Nicole of Kansas City; and Kevin Seaman and his fiance, Tiffany Hart of Kansas City;
His step-granddaughters: Kimberly Biddle and husband, Chris of Winfield; and Kendra Seaman of Washington D.C.; and
His step-great-grandchildren: Keaton and Kenna Biddle of Winfield, and Carson Brothers of Kansas City.
Paul was preceded in death by his father, John Wesley, his mother, Agnes Wesley, his wife, Louise Wesley, and his three sisters, Kathleen Hale, Myrtle Morris and Virginia James.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday morning, April 2, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Military Committal Honors will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 2:00 to 8:00 P.M. Patricia will greet visitors from 2 to 4 P.M. that day and Verl and family will greet visitors from 6:30 to 8:00 that evening.

Memorials have been established in Paul's name for First Presbyterian Church and for Hospice Care of Kansas. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
