Obituary

Paul Robert "Bob" Winn, 91, of McPherson, Kansas, previously of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Monday evening, January 11, 2016 at the McPherson Hospital.

Born February 20, 1924 at Island Park in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of William Joseph and Cora Mae (Holston) Winn. He was raised at the home that was originally in Island Park and later moved across the lagoon. He received his education in Winfield and graduated from Winfield High School where he played Tuba in the band. After school, he served his country in the Coast Guard during World War II.

Bob was united in marriage to Alice "Merle" Stanton on July 2, 1944 in Mobile, Alabama. The couple made their home in Winfield, Kansas where Bob worked for the City of Winfield in the Parks Department. He retired as Sexton of Highland Cemetery.

Bob was a member of Millington Street Baptist Church where he served as Choir Director for over 50 years. He also sang with the quartet, The Winfield Gospelaires. In addition to his music, he enjoyed fishing.

His family includes:
His wife: Merle Winn of McPherson;
His daughters: Sandy Yianakopulos and husband, Larry of McPherson; Paula Shearhart and husband, Jerry of McPherson;
His grandchildren: Larry Yianakopulos, Jr., Jimmy Yianakopulos, Scott Yianakopulos, Jason Murray, Matthew Murray, Melissa Yncera and Wylie Shearhart; and
His 16 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his two brothers, Wesley and Ernest, and three sisters, Elizabeth, Rose and Lola.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, January 15, 2016 at Millington Street Baptist Church in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield, on Thursday evening from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors at that time.

A memorial has been established in Bob's name for Millington Street Baptist Church Choir. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
