Paul D. King, 55, of Sedan, passed away Sunday morning, November 16, 2025 at South Central Kansas Medical Center.
Born June 5, 1970, in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of Donald D. and Ila (Vaughn) King. He was raised and received his education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1988. He then attended Southwestern College, graduating with a Bachelor in Biology in 1992.
After school, Paul moved to Nebraska to work as the Executive Director of Scouting. He later worked at a zoo in Grand Island, Nebraska. He then moved to Gainsville, Texas and worked at a zoo before moving to New Mexico to work at the Red River Fish Hatchery. Paul would then return to scouting, working as a Camp Ranger at King George Lake in New York. In 2017, he returned to Kansas and was currently the Camp Ranger at Quivira Scout Ranch in Sedan. In addition to scouting, Paul enjoyed anything outdoors including, fishing, hunting, hiking, and tracking bears.
His family includes his brother John King of Winfield; his sisters, Cindy Hanes of Winfield; Terry Pike and husband, Rick of Ashland; Sharon Palmer of Arkansas City; his nieces and nephews, Bryan Hanes, Brady Hanes, Scott Pike, Lori Palmer, Jesse Palmer, Riley King, and Peyton King; his great nieces and nephews, Isaac Hanes, Caitlin Pike, Hudson Pike, Ashlyn Cain, Damian Cain, and Jesslyn Palmer; his great great nephew, Isaiah; and numerous cousins.
In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by a brother Kris King, his step-mother Elizabeth "Babe" King, and a nephew Todd Pike.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, December 6, 2025, at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield.
A memorial has been established in Paul's name for the Quivira Council, Scouting America. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
