Obituary

Paul Elwood Houser, 76, of Douglass, Kansas, passed away Wednesday evening, January 18, 2023, at his home.

Born September 10, 1946, in Winfield, he was the son of Charles William Daily and Pauline (Howard) Houser. He was raised and received his education in Rock and Douglass, graduating from Douglass High School in 1965.

He was united in marriage to Brenda Davis on July 17, 1965, at the Douglass Christian Church. The couple made their first home in Douglass and Paul worked as a Machinist for Boeing. He then became an owner and operator of a semi truck before moving to Grand Prairie, Texas, in 1968, where he worked as a Machinist for LTV. In 1970, the family moved to Winfield and Paul worked for the Winfield Fire Department before moving to Tonganoxie, where he worked for the Santa Fe Railroad. The family relocated to Hillsdale in 1976 and Paul worked for Kansas City Power and Light. The family moved to Fort Collins, Colorado and Paul began his career with Platte River Power Authority where he remained for over 23 years, retiring as Maintenance Planner in 2008. While in Colorado, Paul built his dream home in Wellington, with the help of his son Matthew. After retiring, Paul and Brenda returned to Douglass. He enjoyed working at the "Houser land" on the Walnut River. He worked, building bridges, clearing timber, mowing, building rope swings and haunted trails, all for the enjoyment of his family. He got great enjoyment from helping others, family and strangers alike. He also enjoyed pulling pranks, and telling stories, especially scary stories.
