SFC Patrick Joseph Cain, 81, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away September 2, 2024, at his home.
A firecracker and Patriot from birth, he was born July 4th, 1943 to Margaret and Edward Cain in Fort Scott, Kansas. In 1966 he married Judy Schuyler in Winfield. To this union were born two children; Terry Joseph Martindale, and Angela Kay Martindale. Later in life, Pat married Linda Hill Funston on June 01, 2013. Linda preceded Pat in death on October 27, 2014.
SFC Patrick Cain dedicated a large part of his life serving our Country in the Army and later, the Army National Guard. He retired after 30 years of honorable service. SFC Patrick Cain earned many service medals and accolades along the way including Valor for Service and the Arm of Honor to name a few. One of these he earned during his call to action during and after the events of September 11, 2001.
Patrick graduated from Winfield High School in 1961. He later returned to Winfield to continue his education at Southwestern College where he majored in Biology, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree. He then studied abroad in Guadalajara receiving his Doctorates in Podiatry. His medical practice was located in Lower Manhattan, New York City. It was here that he once again answered his call to Duty and provided vital support and services after the tragic events of September 11, 2001.
He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church in Winfield, Kansas. Patrick enjoyed traveling the world and took pleasure in kayaking, hiking, photography, and collecting treasures along the way. He was a friend of Bill W who taught him to live life one day at a time.
Patrick was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Margaret Cain, brother David Cain, sister Anna Adams, son Michael Joseph Cain, and nephew Tony Adams.
He is survived by his son Terry (Misty) Martindale; Daughter Angela (Micheal) Troutman; brother in law Paul Adams; five grandchildren; his nieces and nephews, and many special friends that he made along the way.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, September 13, 2024, at Holy Name Catholic Church of Winfield under the direction of Miles Funeral Service. The Rosary will be prayed prior to the service beginning at 9:30 A.M. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery.
