Obituary

Otis Eldon Kennedy, 93, of Winfield, Kansas, went to be with his Lord on Friday, March 31, 2023, at his home.

He was born February 9, 1930, on the family farm west of Atlanta, Kansas, and he was the second of three children born to Earl Vallow and Laura (Lanier) Kennedy. After graduating from Atlanta High School in 1949, he served as a welder in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954, serving in Korea for 14 months.

He found his calling at a young age as a farmer/rancher. He discovered talents as a self-taught architect, home and barn builder, welder, electrician, and plumber, not only for the family farm, but many neighbor farms in the Prairie View Community.

He was united in marriage to Delia Fay King on February 2, 1957. The couple made their home and farmed in the Prairie View community for many years, retiring to Winfield in 2001. Delia preceded him in death on June 13, 2020. Otis will be remembered as a servant to the Lord and to his community.

His family includes two sons, Kirk Kennedy and wife, Nancy of rural Atlanta; Troy Kennedy and wife, Kathy of Winfield; a brother, Paul Kennedy and wife, Rose of Atlanta; along with seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and many extended family and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, Otis was preceded in death by his sister Pauline Jones.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 6, 2023, at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Wilmot Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 4 to 6 that evening.

Memorials have been established in Otis' name for Prairie View United Methodist Church, the Atlanta Fire Department, and Gentiva Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
