Obituary

OPAL M. LARSON, 94, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Monday afternoon, June 1, 2015 at William Newton Hospital.

Born October 16, 1920 in Antioch, Kansas, she was the daughter of Roy Grover and Maude Leona (Kerschner) Sparks. She was raised and received her education in Irving, Kansas and graduated from Irving High School in 1938.

Opal was united in marriage to Russell W. Larson on July 9, 1942 in Garrison, Kansas. The couple made their first home in Garrison. They moved to Winfield in the early 1950's where Opal was a homemaker. She also worked as a clerk for Higgenbottom Auction Service. Mr. Larson preceded her in death on May 19, 2004.

She was a member of Hillcrest Bible Baptist Church in Arkansas City. She enjoyed going to garage sales looking for antiques and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Her family includes:
Her daughters: Marie Holt of Winfield; and Monita Arlene Fields of Arkansas City;
Her granddaughter: Dawn Renee Kelley of Winfield;
Her great-grandchildren: Carissa Anderson, Savannah Kelley, Isabella Kelley, Alexander Price and Christopher Price; and
Her great-great grandson: Cohen Anderson.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Lester, Orlan, Howard and Paul Sparks, her sisters, Ethel Adams and Helen Pishney, her granddaughters, Stephanie and Jamie Fields, and her sons-in-law, Jack Holt, III and Stanley Fields.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, June 8, 2015 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday evening, June 7, 2015 from 5 to 8. The family will greet visitors from 5 to 6 that evening.

A memorial has been established in Opal's name for Family Life Services in Arkansas City and for the Children's Miracle Network. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
