OLIVER WAYNE SULTZ, 81, of Arkansas City, passed away Saturday morning, November 10, 2007, at his home.
Born on July 18, 1926 on a farm near Bartlesville, Oklahoma, he was the son of Ray Carlton and Elsie Mae (Tyler) Sultz. He was educated in Bartlesville, OK and Arkansas City, KS schools.
He joined the United States Navy at the age of 18 in 1944. He served his country during WWII during the Iwo Jima invasion. He piloted an LCM landing craft from an LST ship, landing Marines and supplies on the beach and picking up downed pilots from the sea. Oliver was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1947. He joined the United States Air Force in 1950, and served as an A&E Mechanic and B36 Bomber mechanic. He also served as a Military Policeman.
Oliver was united in marriage to Letha Joyce Bradford on August 4, 1951, in Wichita Falls, TX. The couple made their home in Winfield and were married 34 years before until her passing on December 9, 1985. He later married Lucille Henry on October 7, 1989 in Arkansas City, KS.
Oliver worked for General Electric for 10 years and retired from Cessna Aircraft after almost 40 years of service in February 2003.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints. He was also involved with the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed reading, coin collecting, model airplanes and repairing just about anything. He got great joy from playing and reading to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. As a boy he enjoyed being with his father training horses and dogs. He was a beloved Patriot, Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and Friend.

His daughter: Debra Drake and husband Dale of Winfield;
His brother: Lloyd Sultz of Disney, OK;
His 8 grandchildren; and
His 11 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Letha Joyce, Oliver was preceded in death by three brothers, a half brother and two sisters.
Military Committal Honors will be held on Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. at Highland Cemetery in Winfield. A Memorial has been established in Oliver's name for Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
