OLIVE "LUCILLE" WARD, 87, of Winfield, passed away early Friday morning at the Winfield Good Samaritan Village.

Lucille was born June 22, 1921 in Rock, Kansas, to William H. "Bill" and Norma (Sheeks) Lawrence. She was raised on a farm northeast of Udall and received her education in the Udall area. She worked at Boeing for five years during the second World War. In later years, she owned cafes in Udall and Missouri and worked as a cook in Southwestern College food service. She retired from food service at the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center in 1981 for health reasons. She moved from Newkirk, Oklahoma to Winfield in 1995 to be near her family.

On December 20, 1958, Lucille married Floyd Ward in Wichita. He preceded her in death in 1985.

She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene. She loved to cook and do all kinds of needle work and cross word puzzles. Before becoming disabled, she loved to do for others, especially the elderly.

Her family includes:
Her brothers: Leonard Lawrence and wife, Gloria of Winfield; and Melvin Lawrence and wife, Charlotte of Winfield;
Her nieces: Carol Torrence of Topeka; and Diana Kelly of Geuda Springs;
Her nephew: Zach Lawrence of Wichita;
Her great-nephews: Cody and Logan Kelly of Gueda Springs; and
Her two step-daughters of California.

A Celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2008, at 10:30 A.M. at the First Church of the Nazarene. Interment will follow at Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service on Monday evening from 5 to 9. The family will greet visitors from 6 to 7.

A Memorial has been established in Lucille's name for the First Church of the Nazarene. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
